Caring beyond the dollar point

This week we processed the chickies. A lot of people really don’t know where their food comes from. I fight it every day at work when I teach agriculture literacy to high school kids. The shock factor never gets old. While I name all the animals, much to everyone’s dismay (and Andre’s), it’s because I care. I was once told that happy, loved animals make the best tasting food. While it’s very crass, it’s not exactly wrong.

Our very small heritage ranch is much like David vs Goliath. Us against the big corporations. Our mission is to bring real food back to the people. To cut down on waste and save people money. Industrial farms chase profits and often use shortcuts. While Guerrero Heritage Ranch is a business, we aren’t in it for the millions. Eventually it may come. But until then, we are covering our costs. But most importantly, we are choosing to raise our animals with care and integrity by letting them by animals.

The chickies got to roam the back half of the acre, free ranging, and maybe helping me with my ant population. They got vegetable scraps I’m sure my worms were missing. They loved being held, and would do that Naruto run every time they saw us.

We didn’t use antibiotics, or grow enhancers. We didn’t rush nature for the sake of a bigger bottom line. We used quality feed and respected their lives. You see, we believe that this creates not only healthier animals, but a healthier meal for you and your family.

Both Andre and I care a lot. We care people. We care about animals. And we care about the earth we all share. We are grateful that we are able to serve you and your family.
